On a picturesque Monday at the ancient Mayan pyramids, just north of Mexico City, the couple found themselves in the midst of a shooting that would test their professional skills to the utmost.

As Roseborrough enjoyed capturing memories from the summit of the pyramid, he suddenly heard a series of distant pops that escalated into gunfire. “It was surreal watching him waving the gun in the air and shooting,” Lagisetty recalled. In the ensuing chaos, a 27-year-old gunman unleashed terror on a tour group, wounding seven individuals.
Quickly reacting, Roseborrough descended to find his wife, and together they sought shelter behind a stone wall, assessing the terrifying scene. However, the couple's instinct to help soon emerged when they heard someone urgently calling for a doctor.

Rushing toward the sound, the couple found a young boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Lagisetty, a pediatric emergency medicine doctor, sprang into action, demonstrating remarkable composure under tremendous pressure. She immediately began attending to the boy, applying direct pressure to control his bleeding while relaying critical information to her husband who assisted with securing the scene.
They next turned their focus to the boy's mother, who was also injured. Their training kicked in, and utilizing materials from bystanders, they were able to keep both victims stable until authorities could take over. “Between a great firefighter and having an emergency room doctor there, we were able to secure the scene and get everyone everything that they needed,” Roseborrough noted. The quick actions of this Houston couple would ultimately lead to both victims being taken to a hospital for further treatment and expected recovery.
