University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College Welcomes New Leadership
The C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston is set to welcome Dr. Xianjun Geng as its new dean, effective May 1, marking a significant transition in leadership for the college. Dr. Geng arrives with a wealth of experience from Tulane University's A.B. Freeman School of Business, where he has served as the senior associate dean for academic programs, as well as being a distinguished chair in business.
Credentials That Inspire Confidence
Dr. Geng is not just a seasoned academic; his credentials include a Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Texas at Austin and extensive research contributions in pricing, supply chain management, and behavioral economics. His appointment follows Paul Pavlou's departure to the University of Miami's Pattie and Allan Herbert Business School, establishing a new chapter for Bauer College.
A Vision for Growth and Excellence
Diane Z. Chase, the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at UH, expressed her confidence in Dr. Geng, stating he brings energy, enthusiasm, and a clear vision for growth to Bauer College. "His passion for student success and experience as a scholar complement his duties perfectly," she noted in the announcement. With this leadership change, the college aims to enhance its national reputation further, which has been bolstered recently by ranking advancements in national MBA program standings and entrepreneurship.
Strategic Growth Amid Enrollment Increases
Under interim dean Praveen Kumar's leadership, Bauer College has experienced notable enrollment growth. Between fall 2019 and fall 2023, there has been a 16.6% increase in graduate and post-baccalaureate enrollment. The recent statistics indicate that the business school has a vibrant community, highlighting 7,254 undergraduate students, 1,121 graduate students, and 86 post-baccalaureate students for fall 2024.
National Rankings Reflect Excellence
These excellent enrollment figures are mirrored by increasing national rankings. Bauer's full-time MBA program vaulted 12 spots in the latest Fortune rankings, landing at number 23 among public universities. Moreover, the Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship has maintained its top ranking among undergraduate entrepreneurship programs for six years, as listed by the Princeton Review.
Dr. Geng's Commitment to Student Success
In his inaugural message, Dr. Geng expressed optimism for the future. "I am hopeful that we will collaboratively establish a shared vision that leads to enhanced student successes and an elevated national and international standing for both Bauer College and UH," he stated. This commitment resonates well with the local community and identifies with the growing ambition of Houston's educational institutions.
A Bright Future for Business Education in Houston
The incoming dean's vision resonates deeply with the broader business community in Houston, which thrives on innovation and entrepreneurship. As local businesses continue to thrive, integrating educational advancements will further bolster the region's economic landscape. The increase in students and the notable recognition of the college's programs are promising signs of future growth.
Bauer College's ability to adapt and improve its offerings makes it a phenomenal choice for those looking to pursue business education in Houston. As the college enters this new phase under Dr. Geng's leadership, there is much anticipation around how he will shape its future.
